Time for a checkup

Spiritual Checkup

When was the last time you went for a checkup? I’m not talking about the kind that requires a human doctor but a spiritual checkup. So many times we go through life and never “check ourselves” spiritually. We end up slipping slowly into a rut in our spiritual life…needing the ultimate Doctor to pull us out. But, when we constantly (daily is optimal) perform a spiritual checkup we rely on God’s power to give Jesus away. Then, our hearts are at peace and our lives have meaning. Check out what David says about this in Psalm 15:1-5:

LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?

2 He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart
3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,
4 who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD,
who keeps his oath
even when it hurts,
5 who lends his money without usury
and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things
will never be shaken.

David gives a checklist of what to watch out for:

  • Are you walking with integrity/blamelessness? (“Living a life above reproach” is what we say around here. You do this in your speech and actions)
  • Do you practice righteousness?  (DTRT! Do the right thing)
  • Do you speak the truth? (At ALL times)
  • Do you slander/harm/defame others? (This includes gossip)

David then ends this section by saying “He who does these things will never be shaken!”

Perform your spiritual checkup, then ask God for His power to fix the things that aren’t lining up. If necessary, ask Him to perform surgery to make your life line up so that the Fear of the Lord will be present in your life.
